How classification and status work

Category describes physical structure and function; wheels alone do not determine whether a robot is humanoid. Product stage describes demonstrated maturity. Commercial availability describes current access: a commercial product may still be limited to pilot customers. Neither stage nor availability alone proves that a product can be purchased. Unknown facts remain unknown.

Toyota Kirobo Mini is a palm-sized communication partner designed for everyday companionship at home, in a vehicle or while travelling. It connects with a smartphone through Bluetooth and its dedicated app, and communicates in Japanese. A built-in camera recognizes facial expressions, allowing the robot to respond with speech, blinking, nodding, and head or arm movements. It can sing, play shiritori, discuss weather, remember personal dates, and retain user preferences and memories of shared outings. Its conversational experience is designed to grow through continued interaction with its user.
